Dani and Zack thought I was pretty crazy for taking pictures of them recycling. (Yeah- they're right about the crazy part! ha ha!)
Russell's favorite part is stomping on the boxes to squish them. He's such a good helper. It's so cute to watch him figure out how to get the boxes or cans or whatever in the opening that's well over his head. Good job Russell!
Brain and I made a deal with Zack and Dani. If they help by taking items out to the bins in the garage and help sort the items we take to the city drop off, then they get to split and keep the money we get from taking in the aluminum cans. This trip was pretty disappointing because the price of metal has really taken a drop. We had four full bags of cans and the kids got.......... $2.00. Yeah, they were sad it wasn't as much as we're used to, but they both said it was more than they had before, plus it was the right thing to do for the environment. Ahhh, isn't that sweet! By the way, did you know there is no limit to how many times an aluminum can can be recycled? Pretty cool huh!
All done for now.
I sure love my good helpers!!!
I found out Saturday that I've created a monster. A recycling monster that is. His name is Russell. Apparently, one too many times, he has seen me pull something recyclable out of our garbage, find the responsible (or maybe irresponsible =)) person, to remind them that the item is recyclable. Saturday we were at a family Christmas party. We were cleaning up and Brian found a 2-liter bottle that only had a little bit of soda pop left in it. He thought Russell would enjoy drinking from such a big bottle, so he gave it to him. Russell thought it was pretty cool, but was really taking his time with it. I told him to finish it and then go throw it away. He took a big gulp to finish it off. At this point I was a little tired of "babysitting" this bottle. I told him again to throw it away. He grabbed it, got a really serious look on his face, and sternly said, "But mom, it's RECYCLABLE!!!" So here's your little "be green" message: If a three year old can do it, so can you! =)

You are so good to get your kids to do it; Jason takes our recycling in. I may have to try that next time our bins are full, which seems to happen way too fast.....which goes to show you why its so important to recycle!
I love that you guys are so committed. Down here they give you a garbage bin and a recycling bin. I am amazed at how much less garbage we have each week and how full our recycling bin is. I love being able to keep up with everything that is going on back home. We miss you guys and can't wait to see everyone (hopefully this summer).
